Seth Menefee was raised in southeastern New Mexico, near the small agricultural community of Artesia. He was fortunate to grow up on his family’s farm and ranch operation, where he took an active role at a young age. Consistent with his experience and interest in agriculture, Seth was ardently involved in 4-H and FFA growing up. As a result, Seth gained an appreciation and passion for agriculture that guided his adolescence and young adulthood.
After graduating high school, Seth attended Oklahoma State University where he received both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in agricultural economics. During his academic career, Seth had the opportunity to interact with some very intelligent, well-respected faculty that helped transform the way he thought about beef production. They introduced a zest for learning and problem-solving that serve as a guiding principal in his life today. His master’s thesis focused on the impacts of aging beef producers in Oklahoma and the financial viability of young producers trying to enter the profession.
Seth applied his vast education and experience working for a corporate firm before deciding to return to work on his family’s operation. By doing so, he was realizing one of his lifelong goals to farm and ranch alongside his family members. Their diverse operations produce alfalfa, corn/wheat double crops, cotton, pecans, and beef cattle. The cattle portion of the business is primarily a cow/calf operation, although a portion of the farm is used to grow stocker cattle. Their operations proximity to the large dairy industry in the Pecos Valley provides opportunities for the farm to work closely with local dairies to provide high quality alfalfa and corn silage for their milk cows.
Seth loves agriculture and the people involved in it. He is thoroughly excited for the opportunity to tell the story of the good, hardworking people that put food on your table, especially the ever so delicious and nutritious BEEF!
